Nature is taking back what rightfully belongs to it.
We live in a world that is constantly evolving and growing, it is strange to find places that are vacant to human life. Walking through an abandoned space makes me curious about how it got to its current state and what it might have looked like in its previous life. The only sign of life is the overgrowth of nature in the uninhibited space and the occasional by stander that leaves their mark with graffiti. When photographing my reference images, I am always drawn to the textures naturally produced by plants or fungi on different surfaces that I replicate in my paintings. Instead of decaying abandoned scenes being a gloomy eyesore, I want to depict it as a refurbishment of life in something that would otherwise be withering away. The overgrowing mushrooms illuminate vibrant colors to symbolize the beauty in mother nature, giving new life back into this decaying environment.
